This document is shared with students each Monday so they can enter the ‘big rocks’ for the upcoming week into their planner/calendar. Parents should ask their child about this and take a look at their planner each week.

7th Grade musical cast and crew: Thursday, April 27

We hope to see you all at the 7th grade musical, The Most Epic Birthday Party Ever, tonight at 6:30. Tickets are on sale for $6 at the door.
Performances are this Thursday night (4/27) at 6:30 and Friday (4/28) at 8:00. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the night of the show. We hope to see you there!

6th Grade Parents: Interested in the annual 7th grade 2018 Washington D.C. Trip? Join the sponsors for an informational meeting on Thursday, April 27th from 6-7pm at Waukee (aka “North”) Middle School’s cafeteria. Students will be receiving more information in advisory

Attention current 6th grade students:   Iowa requires a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and meningococcal vaccine to enter the 7th grade. Your child will need proof of vaccination before the first day of school in August.

Calling all current 7th graders! This summer you could be awarded a cost free, week long camp (Youth RYLA) hosted by Iowa Rotary District 5970 and 6000 at Grinnell college!   Youth RYLA is a leadership program that promotes, encourages, and rewards outstanding young people.  An all-expense paid six-day camp that brings together a special group of boys and girls from throughout Iowa to share ideas about becoming better leaders. YRYLA is an action-packed program of activities that help build confidence and leadership skills (like problem solving games, challenge course, skits, group discussion and team building activities).
When: Young RYLA: July 23 – 28, 2017
Where: Grinnell College in Grinnell
Cost: There is no cost to you!

2016-2017 YEARBOOKS- We still have yearbooks available, please stop by the front desk with payment to secure your yearbook.  Waukee Middle School yearbooks will be passed out to students who have pre-paid at the end of the school year. Revtrack yearbook payments have ended at this time however you may still pay at the front office based upon availability. Please check your own Revtrack records or email Jenn Ghelf at jghelf@waukeeschools.org if you would like to verify your purchase avoiding payment duplication.

All lost and found items are located in boxes marked “LOST Treasures” in each pod, the Gym in addition to the commons. Uncollected items will be donated to the Waukee Community Closet. Need Clothes? Please, If you live in Dallas County and are experiencing a financial hardship that is effecting your family’s ability to obtain necessary clothing items (clothes or shoes that fit, that are clean and hole-free, that are weather appropriate, etc.), community families and business have provided an outlet where these can be obtained free of charge through the Waukee Community Closet. SMS 6th Grade Student Newsletter releases the “Fall 2016″ edition. 

The best was to view the newsletter is to click the above links directly on the compatible device and file with open in the correct App. For example, if you are going to view the file on iPhone then click the ePUB file format link. The newsletter will open in iBooks App of Apple.  We are looking for feedback from parents so we can integrate your suggestions in our next newsletter

South Middle School Video Game Group
Do you have a passion for video games? Want to game with your classmates after school? The video game group will spend the first 30 minutes discussing, learning and sharing info on games. The last 30 minutes will be dedicated to playing video games. Games will be played on equipment provided by the group leader or members playing on their phones and/or handheld devices. All games played in the group must be rated either Early Childhood, Everyone, or Everyone 10+ as rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board. Grades 6-7. Group leader: Ryan Langel.
Dates: October 18, November 1 & 15, December 6 & 20, January 3 & 17, February 7 & 21, March 7 & 21, April 4 & 18, May 2 & 16.
Day: Tuesdays (1st & 3rd of each month)

Hyperstream – There is still time to join. We will meet every Thursday from 3-4 PM during the school year. This event may coincide with Makerspace twice a month. We learn about technology through Robotics, Coding, and App Development using lessons to help us create our own work for Hyperstream Competitions. Be prepared to use your Problem Solving skills during our time together.

Makerspace – We will meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday’s from 3 P.M – 4 P.M. Bring your problem solving skills to innovate and create. We will have a variety of activities each time to try something new and creative. Some activities are limited and they will vary from event to event with a few exceptions. Transportation-Busing Students are not allowed to ride a different bus home with another student.  For example, Johnny can not ask his friend Joey to ride the bus home with him if Joey is not assigned to that bus.


All Waukee Schools will be continuing with ONLINE REGISTRATION for all students for the 2016-2017 school year. Registration packets will NOT be mailed home. Parents will receive a notification via e-mail during the month of July. If you have changed your email address, please notify the building secretary or district office of your current email address. You may log into Power School one week before school to check your child’s schedule.

School Supplies 2016-17  PTO Supply boxes orders ended in mid July. If you ordered one, the box will be delivered to your child’s Advisory teacher before school starts. Families can find the supply list below:

Incoming 7th graders Immunization Requirement for students to enter 7th grade: All students entering, advancing or transferring into 7th grade and born on or after September 15, 2000, will need proof of an adolescent tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough)  booster immunization (called Tdap) for school entrance next fall. Your current 6th grade students will need this immunization to enter 7th grade for the 2016-17 school year.
