Welcome to Fourth Grade! My name is Darcy Nidey and I am excited to be your child’s fourth grade teacher. I grew up in Urbandale, IA and graduated from Urbandale High School. After high school I attended the University of Northern Iowa (Go Cats!) where I graduated with a double major in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, along with a minor in Reading. After graduation I was fortunate to obtain a teaching job in the “rural” town of Waukee. 🙂 When I first started in the district Waukee Elementary was the 3-5 building and Eason Elementary was the K-2 building. As Waukee transitioned to neighborhood schools I was a member of the team that transferred to Eason to begin teaching fourth grade in this building. I completed my Master’s Degree in Effective Teaching and Leadership at Drake University. This year marks my twenty-first year of teaching. It has been a privilege to be a part of a district that has been a leader in educational excellence as well as a model of how to grow gracefully.
I am proud to be a teacher in this community, but also a parent. My husband, Adam, is a teacher in West Des Moines. He teaches third grade at Crestview Elementary and coaches girls’ soccer for the Valley Tigers. We have two children, Evan – who is a tenth grader at Waukee High School, and Lauren – who is a sixth grader at South Middle School.
We love to travel, to read, and love anything that has to do with sports. We love to support the Waukee Warriors (and the Valley Tigers on occasion 🙂 ). We are also big Panther, St. Louis Cardinals, and Indianapolis Colts fans.
We are proud to raise our family in Waukee. Fourth grade will be a year of great change and growth for your child and I am excited to be on this journey with your family.
