Hi! I’m Mrs. Senne and I have been teaching music for 16 years here at Waukee. My husband and I have 3 wonderful children, Braden (16), Andrew (11) and Brynn (7). I also can’t forget to mention our feisty black cat, Genevieve and our rambunctious doggie, Pluto.
I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree from Simpson College where I studied elementary/secondary music and also performed many recitals and many soprano roles in the operas there. I also was an apprentice artist for Des Moines Metro Opera. I always thought that I wanted to be a famous opera singer but my passion for music led me to teaching and sharing my love for music with these wonderful little beings. I love teaching children because they instinctively love music and are not afraid to sing, dance and play. It is important for me to make sure that the students learn to be tuneful, beatful and artful so that they will be able to:
- Sing lullabies and songs to their own children and grandchildren
- Dance at their own wedding and other celebrations
- Clap appropriately to music at sporting events
- Realize the value of music in their own life and the importance of the arts in their own culture.
Not only are these points important to me, music is vital to the emotional, physical and cognitive development of the child.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to teach music to your children. I truly feel that I have the best job in the world.
A few quotes that guide my philosophy of music education and my life-
“Not everything that can be measured matters and not everything that matters can be measured.”
“Math and science are necessary for the development of the brain. Music and art are necessary for the development of the heart. Neither of which we can live without.”
“Because life is more than our work and our work is more
than our job…”
