Hello Everyone!  I am Katy Mavis your child’s school counselor.  I am so excited to serve as the full-time counselor at Woodland Hills and have been blessed to be in my 13th year with Waukee.   This is going to be a fun year full of learning and adventures in whole group guidance, small groups and in individual counseling sessions.  I meet with students after they have been referred by you, teachers and through a self-referral process.  As I meet with your child, we explore problems and feelings through talk, art, play and bibliotherapy.  I look forward to meeting with your children and have a strong desire for them to feel comfortable with me.

I was born and raised in Fertile, MN and am the oldest of three.  I have a younger sister and brother, Tracy and Brett.  I LOVE them!  After graduating from high school I went to the University of North Dakota.  We enjoyed the cold weather by watching lots of hockey, GO SIOUX!  During college, I met my husband, Mike.  We got married and moved to Cleveland, OH where I went to Kent State and got my masters in school counseling.

After five years in Ohio we settled down in West Des Moines and I began counseling at Brookview and currently at Woodland Hills.  Mike is a pilot for Southwest Airlines.   We have two crazy kids.  Stella, our oldest daughter, is nine.  Stella wants to be a vet and loves kitties.  Our little six year old boy, Josiah, loves his sister.  They are SO much fun and they keep me on my toes at all times.  I love them so much!  We also have two cats, Frodo and Charlie Anderson.
