About Waukee APEX Director, Michelle Hill

MichelleHillHeadshotv2I am honored to be entering my 19th year in education. I am originally from Burlington, IA (southeast corner of the state) and graduated from UNI with a degree in Economics – Business Analysis. I graduated with my Master of Arts Degree in Secondary Education from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, WI. I also have a Master of Arts  Degree in Administration and Curriculum Instruction from the University of Wisconsin.

My past work experience includes teaching 3 years in Tucson, AZ at Valencia Middle School and Tucson High School and 5 years at Urbandale High School teaching Computer Applications, Multimedia, Entrepreneurship, Recordkeeping, Yearbook as well as being the Student Senate Advisor and Department Chair.

I  was an adjunct instructor for AIB College of Business from 2004 through 2014 teaching Computer Applications, Web Design, Business Ethics, Microeconomics, and Statistics.  I was also a Dean for Academic Resources at AIB College of Business, running the online learning management program and training both faculty and students, as well as supervising the Library, Tutoring, and Service Learning program for several years before returning to teaching at Waukee and help launch the Waukee APEX program.

When I find time away from school, I spend time with my friends, family, and my husband, Adam. We have a daughter, Marley (8), and a son, Donovan (6). I am enjoy being a mom and all the fun that goes along with two very active littles at home.

I love all types of music and am an avid concert goer which helps out with my other hobby of travel. I’ve been to 40 of the 50 states plus Canada and Mexico. My last major trip was to London a few summers ago. I still have a few states (and continents) left to visit. I enjoy sports, especially Hawkeye football and the Chicago Cubs. We love the fall and will be enjoying our tenth year as season ticket holders at Kinnick.  I am teaching Marley and Donovan all about being a Hawkeye while my husband tries to spoil my efforts as he is an Illinois fan.

This will be my ninth year with Waukee Schools and as Teacher Champion for the HyperStream program. I am looking forward to the 2017-2018 school year directing the Waukee APEX program.  I am passionate about learning through real-life projects where both students and businesses benefit through shared learning.  It is an exciting and valuable experience for all parties involved.
